Inside the Silence
ongoing project
Psychiatric hospitals often have a bad reputation in society.
Whether it's in books, films or what we hear around the subject, it remains a rather vague and troubling reality. It's rare to hear testimonials from people who have actually experienced it, whether for fear of judgment or difficulty in expressing their feelings.
The aim of this project is to present objects belonging to people who have been patients of these institutions. Behind these objects, personalities emerge, while remaining anonymous.
For this reason, the names were changed and we only know their age at the moment of the most meaningful hospitalisation.

“ Exchanges often happen at the hospital. A patient had left some slippers in the corridor of the health facility where I was staying. I decided to exchange them for my shoes during an episode of psychosis. She refused, so I offered my shoes to another patient who had back problems because of his shoes. After my psychotic break, it was too late for me to get my shoes back. So I ended up with these slightly worn slippers that I never wore. My mother spent a few months looking at the shoes of patients she passed in the street, trying in vain to get my shoes back. ”

“ This is Mr. Groundhog. I had given him to a drug addict from South America, he was very religious and reminded me of the Colombian priests at ”my parents' house. I finally got him back. He's an hospital survivor. ”
